The Reading Lady shares the second in a series of books about Poppo, a grandfather who contracts ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The books were inspired by author Annie MacDonald’s graduate school professor, the real-life Poppo, who asked that she write something for his granddaughters to help them understand his illness. In the second volume, Poppo's granddaughter does all she can to make his half-birthday the most special day it can be.
