Stuck in Vermont- Students Feed Seniors

At the Newark Street School, fourth and fifth graders meet up after school every Wednesday to prepare meals for six local seniors. In a tiny kitchen, they learn cooking and baking skills as well as culinary etiquette, which includes cleaning up. Laura “Mrs. Ro” Robichaud and Sue “Miss Sue” Winsor help the rookies read recipes and prepare the food. The dinners are delivered to community members, and the students sample the leftovers. This club is part of the Kingdom East Afterschool Program and is funded by the Friends of Newark Street School. The school in Vermont's northeast corner educates about 60 students from kindergarten to eighth grade, and sometimes older students join the club, too.
